I did a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS install recently on a friend's computer and it was like the simplest hardware experience ever. I "added printer" and it printed a test page successfully. This was a HP multifunction printer. But I don't remember the model. Then I went to "Applications" -> "Graphics" -> "Simple Scan" and it just worked. Very refreshing for a change!
