Something is very wrong.  In 1979 I went to the ER and received 3 stitches.  Cost : $35.00.  At the time I was attending college and lived in a "guest house".  It was maybe 400sqft.  I paid about $35/mo in utilities. A trip to the ER recently for very minor treatment was almost $4000.00 after the doctor sent his bill.  We were in and out in about an hour. I was able to get the $3,054 ER charge down to $760.  Sure hope my utilities do not go up to $760.  Yikes!  The doctor billed us at $665.  I'm waiting for his adjustment. I'm glad the ER is there however I need it to be much more reasonable (read as affordable). I cannot afford to get sick! ------------------------ Keith Smith --- On Tue, 8/17/10, Lyle Tuttle wrote: From: Lyle Tuttle Subject: Re: OT: Self Employed Health Insurance Costs and Coverage To: "Main PLUG discussion list" Date: Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 11:20 AM You can also start your own group -- only need two people. Here is my dilemma.  I am older so I am more high risk.  The best insurance I can find cost close to $500/month for my wife and I and it has a $3000 deductible for each of us.  Basically we will be paying $6000/year for catastrophic insurance and will pay $3000 for each of us until the insurance kicks in.  If we just have some preventative care, we could end up spending upwards of $8000 a year without accessing the Insurance. Any suggestions from others who are self employed?
