In this case the ACLU may actually help.  They are a bit of a loose cannon from what I have been reading lately. Here is a bit of a twist.  Something learned about in High School, Ex post facto laws are in violation of the US Constitution. The ACLU website says "The bill essentially grants absolute retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies that facilitated the president¢s warrantless wiretapping program over the last seven years by ensuring the dismissal of court cases pending against those companies.". I do not think so.  This part of the bill is Ex post facto and a violation of the Constitution.  Now I'm no lawyer.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex_post_facto_law      At the bottom of the page under United States there is a sentence that states "The current debate over granting telecoms retroactive immunity for their part in warrantless wiretapping is one that some believe does not invoke the ex post facto clause in the U.S. Constitution." Only the court can say. ------------------------ Keith Smith (520) 207-9877 PHP Programmer --- On Thu, 7/10/08, Joshua Zeidner wrote: From: Joshua Zeidner Subject: Re: Spy Bill Debate Comes to an End To: klsmith2020@yahoo.com, "Main PLUG discussion list" Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:01 AM On Wed, Jul 9, 2008 at 3:09 PM, keith smith wrote: > > > I can't believe what I read on ABCnews.com - Spy Bill Debate Comes to an End ACLU steps up: http://www.aclu.org/safefree/general/35928prs20080709.html time to see if the supreme court still works. -jmz > > I posted my rant on Craigslist.org - > http://tucson.craigslist.org/pol/748692546.html > > All I can say is I need a blog. > > Posted on > Tucson Free Unix Group > PLUG > AZPHP > > > > ------------------------ > Keith Smith > (520) 207-9877 > PHP Programmer > > > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: > http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss > -- "Never take counsel of your fears." - Andrew Jackson - http://www.joshuazeidner.com/
