This means that Ubuntu is running the VESA graphics driver instead of the driver specific to your particular hardware. If you have the file, simply restoring /etc/X11/xorg.conf should solve the problem. Otherwise you can configure you X server settings by using "System->Administration->Screens and Graphics" --Ted
