[snipped all] I don't run compiz/beryl on my home desktop because we don't really care about fancy effects. I could turn it on just before letting someone borrow it for whatever; so they would say 'gee, this is cool' and I could say 'yeah, its linux'. I have had a couple random strangers ask 'is that vista?' when I happen to have beryl running on my laptop while working at a coffee shop. That's it for me.. i don't run linux at work, and the above situations are my only chances to introduce linux. For first impressions, people don't normally care what something is unless there is some bling that grabs their attention. As far fast-user-switching and 3ddesktop, I've noticed that the window manager hangs when I switch to another account then switch back. It's not a big deal because I don't normally run 3ddesktop. It would be good in general if that was improved. Possibly Ubuntu's bulletproof-X will help that. -j
