It will boot into "recovery Mode" which I believe is single user run level 1. I subsequently found an item that said you could also do a clean install of 7.04 ubuntu and then run a wole series of commands to turn it into a UbuntuStudio 7.04. I am trying that now. Might give a better clue what is failing.
