Ah! Found the problem. As always with me, it was something stupid that's my fault. I decided to click the "details" arrow to see what it was doing. Then I found a dialog asking me what to set as my default display manager. (I chose KDM because it started with a "K.") So it was sitting there all this time (about two or three days by now) asking what display manager to use! So all I can do now is sit back and let it install. The PERFECT time for a Back to the Future marathon on ABC. ----- Original Message ---- From: "tuna@supertunaman.com" To: Main PLUG discussion list Sent: Friday, February 23, 2007 9:00:33 PM Subject: Re: How long should KDE take to install? Nope. Cox hi-speed. Maybe apt-get hates me. ----- Original Message ---- From: Jeremy C. It should not take all day long. Your screensaver shouldn't slow anything down. Are you using slow dial-up to retrieve packages? (But even that plus installation should not take 8 hours.) Jeremy C.
