(ACA) where I work, but I can tell you that we have some software [DLCS] that plays some role in doing some "loading" of data and even code, to a certain target system that we are working on. Recently there have been some issues, and I think they may relate to, when the DLCS software is updating itself (well, probably it is more like, it is updating some .dll that is used, "indirectly", during when DLCS is running). Hence, we have started to take an interest in the scheme used by Debian (which I think is really cool) (but I do not know much about it), for updting the kernel. (without having to use so-called "back door" methods, such as mounting the HDA as a R/W drive while booted off of a live CD or something?). I personally am not interested in it, due to wanting to actually update my kernel. (Although that might be a side benefit of learning more). I would like to understand more about how it "works" - - so that way, I might be able to give some advice to the DLCS folks, about how to use some of the ideas that Debian uses. (Actually, Debian may not be the only one; other distro's might have the same, or a similar scheme, for enabling a surgeon to operate on himself (and do a brain transplant) Any scheme that works well, I would like to learn about it). I understand that some other topic might be more popular. However, at this time, this topic might be of interest to a lot of the folks who work at ACA. (It is near Dunlap & I-17 - - about 5 mi. S. of the PLUG "W. Side" meetings). -- Mike Schwartz Glendale AZ schwartz@acm.org Mike.L.Schwartz@gmail.com
