must have missed your post... i don't mind bleeding edge; i just don't want to spend hours fixing things like i did on fc4... actually part of why i picked fc4 to convert to linux; lots stuff worked just enough i manually fixed to learn it. but i'm over that now, my day job keeps me way to busy. i want 3d desktop, multimedia (even avi, streaming, etc), kde, fast distro, and up-to-date packages. considering my family also uses this laptop, do you think sabayon would fit the bill? ----- Original Message ---- From: Patrick C To: Main PLUG discussion list Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 9:41:33 PM Subject: Re: another fc6 slip Actually, I think I replied. It was just a rather short (and somewhat insubstantial) reply. Portage has been very simple for me to learn. Within about a week of having Sabayon, I started to get the hang of it. I made a short post here on how I use it. Don't wait too long for the next release, though. Sabayon has a very fast incremental release cycle. Talk about bleeding edge: if a package is released the day before a release, chances are that the package will be on the ISO (this has happened!). Liked it, but there were a couple things still a little flaky. Also, I'm not so familiar with portage as I am with yum & rpm's. I will probably try it again when they have another release . -j ----- Original Message ---- From: Patrick C To: Main PLUG discussion list < plug-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us> Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 9:23:08 PM Subject: Re: another fc6 slip This is moving slightly away from your original topic, but if you'd really like to try AIGLX, try Sabayon Linux. It works with both XGL and AIGLX for Intel, Nvidia, and ATi graphics cards. (although I've never gotten anything to work quite right with ATi on Linux, Sabayon Linux included. http://www.sabayonlinux.org On 10/17/06, Josh Coffman wrote:FYI, the FC6 release date has been pushed back until the Tuesday, Oct. 24th. I would provide a link to the post on fedora-announce, but the their list site is currently down for maintenance. It should be up on fedoranews.org tomorrow sometime. In the meantime, Mandriva One 2007 is working pretty nicely with Xgl. (I'd really like to use Aiglx because I prefer the implementation approach... but I should just get over that for now.) -j --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
