One known bug in the update process described on the DapperUpgrades page has to do with pcmcia services on non-pcmcia machines (e.g. most desktops). The page seems to say you can avoid this bug (rather than having to repair it) but the instruction is not clear to me. The page says: A fix for this problem is in the dapper-updates repository. We strongly recommend that upgraders enable dapper-updates while upgrading. This will make the workaround unnecessary. Trouble is I am not sure how to do this since the update-manager method failed (described in a previous discussion list email) so I am going to use the CD upgrade method using the ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386 CD. This may seem a trivial question to many of you but I am not certain and while upgrading the OS I would appreciate advice before my trial (hopefully without error). -- "The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them."
