I generally try to maintain my system with the latest versions of whatever packages I have installed.  If you're using a Debian-based distro, synaptic makes this pretty painless.  Suse has similar support through their YOU tool and YAST2, I don't know about Red Hat.

Actually I am trying to upgrade 'konqueror-nsplugins'. I never got a response 
as to which packages to upgrade for security. I thought I did and that I 
accidently deleted it but a search of the archive revealed my posts 
concerning this topic and nothing else. If you could tell me I would be most

The kdestartup issue is actually pretty minor too
