Do you have the source for this modified loader?  Is it Open Source?

Well, the knoppix people probably could not help because (and correct me if
I'm wrong) PPC is not a popular port for Knoppix. I asked on a few Yellow Dog
list and they sorta indicated I was a fool for even trying (since I should
only run installed YDL?) And the Ubuntu forum was not very responsive to my
request I think, like asking BSD questions on Mac forums, they know it's
relevant, but it still scares them :)

BTW the Mac forums where dead quite to the question and the XUsers group had
never heard of the use of this advanced boot loader / small host os thing to
read and load OS from a file. Eventually some one smarter then I shall port
something cool, and when they do I will say "Hey that's cool" :)

Not a big deal, when I get some cash I am thinking about picking up a F/W
drive and just loading a few things on their. I just wanted to play with a
few live distro's and use the CD/DVD-R drive

Hehehe, yha, but can you do it on a PPC using soft
partitions (disk images of
.iso or .dmg files?) ie. boot to a disk image on my
G4....

A while back I had a modified loader (from some one)
that read .iso files as
active CDROMS and loaded them as if they came from
the CDROM. Unfortunatly
I can not find my i386 version and even if I did I
would still need a PPC
version (Sigh)

I would love to be able to do this sort of thing

for

a couple of live CD's on
my G4 laptop... ie. boot to a disk image...

Any

thoughts?

Oh, and it looks like you have more than one

hd on

that or at least more than one partition. You

could do

a 'poor man's install' of Knoppix to another

partition

so as to free up the cdrom/dvdrom writer if

only

one

on the machine. What it does is copy verbatim

the

cd

and with the Knoppix cd in the cdrom, it loads

only

vmlinux...about 2 seconds worth then runs off

the

'poor man's copied cdrom on the partition.

http://www.knoppix.net

should have a 'how to' on poorman's install.

If

not,

email me, I know how to.

Hello!

I'd like to save what data I can from this

drive. I

have tried to reinstall
like 5 distors and they all report

unrecoverable

errors on hdf1 (/home).
It's always been separate from / (hda1).

If you need the exact error from, say,

Fedora -

I

can produce that.

Thank you in advance!
