What I prefer:

 

tar tvzf (tarball path).  Make certain everything's in its own directory.  If so, extract in ~  Otherwise, make a directory, and extract in it.  Easy clean afterward, only need to be root for the install step.

 

Perhaps for some reason the programme's loading several instances of itself.
