Because it's microsoft (open mouth, extol fud), and they don't want people to know there's value in something they don't have to pay for.  It might undermine their business model for the past 20 years, that people *do* have an alternative to windoze.

Hell, I still know companies that pay for winzip, most non-geeks equate free==something infecting them while it's at it.  It's the microsoft way.
