... but your uploaded pictures were less than 40K.  I'm betting that you 
still had the EXIF data in your image.  If you strip that out, your 
images will get a lot smaller.  You can easily stip the EXIF data with 
the "Save for web" feature of the gimp.

Check out what I did in GIMP... I added a picture of the moon that I 
took. :)
