Thanks, I looked at the Network Manager and the only thing that looked like a problem was  "managed=false" where google said it should be "true". So I changed that but it made no difference.

Sounds like a dBus issue to me?  Silly question, but are you connecting your network via Network Manager?  Firefox, I have seen, sometimes has trouble connecting when ifup/down is used instead of NM.
