I have looked at almost every FOSS POS package out there.. and depending on 
what your requirements are one of them might be a good base to start from. I 
am currently trying figure out what direction I am going to go in.

I can say this.. there is not ONE retail POS app that has caught the Linux 
world by storm yet.

What do you mean by retail app? 
App for retial? 
POS app?
