I have created RAID 5 and the total capacity is 1000GB. I have to create only one partition on this device. Which filesystem do you suggest for such a big partition? Or the type of the filesystem matters only in the case of individual file sizes and block sizes and not the partition size?? Which filesystem?? -----Original Message----- From: plug-discuss-admin@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us on behalf of Sanjay Darisi Sent: Tue 10/5/2004 9:52 AM To: plug-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us Subject: RE: Accessing scsi based external storage I did RAID 0 just to test the storage box and to find out about the 1TB limit, it's good that you let me know about the limit Austin. That wasn't a needless worry, you made me a little more cautious. I've planned for RAID 5. Oops... did I say it doesn't do RAID 5?? It does... From the configuration webpage, I've realized it can do all kinds of RAID levels - Raid 0, Raid 0+1 through Raid 6. And what is this JBOD anyway?? Just launch minicom and am I good to go?? -----Original Message----- From: plug-discuss-admin@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us on behalf of Austin Godber Sent: Mon 10/4/2004 7:40 PM To: plug-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us Subject: Re: Accessing scsi based external storage > > I have a question, there is a serial cable that comes with that device. I have connected it to the host computer and I donno how to read from that. Is there any hyper terminal program that I have to use?? Maybe the serial cable allows you serial console on the RAID device so that you can do configuration and stuff. THe program you should look to use in linux is called "minicom". Rob makes an excellent point about RAID 5 ... I know you said it couldnt do it ... but RAID 0 is gonna hurt ... if a single disk dies you loose the whole thing right? This means backups (not to implie that RAID 5 doesn't mean backups)... where are you going to backup 1.25TB? I am glad you didn't have the 1TB limit sorry to worry you needlessly.
