Find out what version kernel Knoppix is running (uname -r) and start there. Also, try using the knoppix kernel config if it's provided (sometimes in /proc/config, at least on gentoo kernels). Even if you do match kernel versions and configs, it may still not work due to some patch Knoppix applied to the kernel, or XFree86. Never-the-less, I would start by trying to match versions and configs exactly.
