How to refresh the list of updates?

I have a Thinkpad T420 running an older version
of Linux Mint as my main computer ... however,
I have been unable to update it because I get
this error message:

Could not refresh the list of updates

WzDuplicate sources.list entry http://dl.google.com/linux/
chrome/deb/ stable/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/
dLgoog|e.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_binary-
amd64_packages).
Encountered a section with no package: header,
Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/
archive.getdeb.net_ubuntu_dists_trusty—
getdeb_apps_i18n_Translation-en,
The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

How can I get this fixed?
