For what I did, I pulled the original into gimp, and then used the clone tool to removed the product and dimension from the original. I then counted the total number of colors in the image (3) and changed the image to be an indexed image with only 3 colors. That gave me a completely clean image without any antialiasing. I saved that out to a PNG file so that it wouldn't have any chance of having any artifacts introduced like with JPEGs. I then pulled that file into Inkscape. Once in Inkscape I went to Path -> Trace Bitmap and selected Grays with 3 scans and checked remove background. That gave me a fairly good representation of the bitmap in vector form. From there I just simplified the nodes, fixed the hand and then did some tweaking on the shape of the outline to "make it my own". Then exported it out to a PNG at a much bigger size.
