I think a more interesting question is … what implications does this have on the (silly) legislation proposed that would make it illegal to tamper with device firmware? (The intent behind the legislation appears somewhat vague, but generally tied to legitimate security concerns.) This would seem to fly in the face of that legislation, since they seem to be moving towards, as they call it, a Software Defined Architecture that’s enabled by reprogramming the ASICs (?) on the switches. I can see reprogramming the EEPROM, but ASICS? Or is it the same thing? -David "The Tool Wiz" Schwartz > On Sep 18, 2015, at 12:27 PM, Keith Smith wrote: > > > Perhaps it is a trick? > > On 2015-09-17 23:59, Eric Oyen wrote: >> it was bound to happen sooner or later. perhaps they finally got a >> brain. >> -eric >> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/09/18/microsoft_has_developed_its_own_linux_repeat_microsoft_has_developed_its_own_linux/?mt=1442559356305 >> [1] >> Links: >> ------ >> [1] >> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/09/18/microsoft_has_developed_its_own_linux_repeat_microsoft_has_developed_its_own_linux/?mt=1442559356305 >> --------------------------------------------------- >> PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org >> To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: >> http://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss > > -- > Keith Smith > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: > http://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: http://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
