hey, I just wired a computer to a router and no internet. I thought that maybe it was the rj-45 and when I put a new end on and plugged it in the info window appeared saying, 'You are now connected.' After internet still didn't work I unplugged it again and the info window said, 'You are now disconnected from the internet'. The router lights up when I plug it in and the lights on the NIC flash (so the two devices are communicating). Is there a hardware firewall I need to be aware of or something like that? This is when I was running a Live Linux distro. When I was logged in to windows7 it said something about the DNS after I clicked the troubleshooting. When I was on the Linux side 'connection information' said that the DNS was the router (192.168.0.1) and 205.171.3.25 . When I attempted to go to the 205.... ip it appears to be no longer a valid address; however, the other device connected to the router is working just fine. Any ideas as to what is wrong?
