Bring over a System Rescue CD and a Lubuntu 15.04 live CD to make sure it works (no HD, after all). You can look at /proc/* and lshw to verify that what he says is in there is in there. You can look at /proc/cpuinfo to verify that it has hardware virtualization. If it works with System Rescue CD, and it is substantially as described including the CPU having hardware virtualization, do the following: * Do NOT grind him on price. He might change his mind. * Whip out $60 cash, get a receipt. * Drive 4 blocks away, where he can't see or hear you. * Get out of the car, do a victory dance. * Order a fifty buck SATA hard disk from Newegg when you get home. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339. Because you're moving, have it go to someone you trust to keep it safe. DO NOT have it go to the address you're moving out of or the address you're moving to. It will be gone. * Install the hard drive, install Linux, have fun. * For extra credit, you might want to install 16GB RAM on there and turn it into a monster VM machine. Take it from me, VMs, not metal, are where you want to do your experimentation.
