Back in the day I bought a couple IBM Deathstars: They were great drives until they broke, usually in about a year. Compared to my experiences with laptops, especially physical problems with laptops, my experiences with hard drives have been quite satisfying. But I know I'm in the minority, and the only thing I can figure is I always make sure my case is well ventilated, and I often use hard drive fans/heatsinks.
