What you are looking for is known as an Intrusion Detection system. 
There are several to choose from, so I'll leave it up to you to pick the 
best one your needs.  It's a pretty big subject, so this will take up 
some time in the future.  That being said, they will usually do quite a 
bit out of the box with little to no settings.
