I'm all for it, and that would be very acceptable, but how do I do that automatically so that someone can just send out an HTML message with images embedded into it and have after the server mangles the message have it go out as a message stripped of all images and links put in their place. I do believe that this solutions, although possible, could be harder to implement than just putting resized images back into place within the message. The really slick thing to do would be to only do this for local mail mail delivery and to also keep track of the message itself so that you could delete the detached attachment when the email is deleted, allowing for multiple recipients of the message, but only storing one copy. If course this would require IMAP, it would sorta fall apart under POP.
