I heartily agree with Alan. PLUG is a priceless resource, just the way it is. We just needs a more focused effort to promote PLUG and also to better promote Linux. And there are countless ways we could do this. * Allocating a few minutes at each meeting to exchange promo ideas. * A poster and brochure to promote PLUG meetings and installfest dates on community college bulletin boards (and elsewhere). * Years ago, I made a brochure (no doubt needs improvement and updating): - - http://www.upquick.com/linux/pdfs/brochure3.pdf - - * Include (and highlight) a link to the PLUG website on each PLUG email list mailing. * Linux *still* needs a better -- more fool-proof -- LIVE CD with PLUG contact info and web address printed on the CD. I would contribute to making that (in part so I could have one to give to every computer user I know/meet.) I am convinced that Chromebook is going to radically change the world because it is basically a Linux system and there are already dozens of articles published about installing Linux on Chromebooks. So how much longer with M$ be able to sustain such inflated premium prices (the M$ tax) when many ways superior laptops are now available at a fraction of their inflated anti-trust prices? ---------- Alan Daley last wrote (in part) on the former subject title: > We seem to be asking "Who is taking our active users away?" > or "Is Linux so easy and boring that fewer and fewer want > to talk about it?" > > Would it not be more productive to ask "How do we attract > and keep active users?" and "Now that Linux is easy to use > ... what can we talk about that is even more interesting?" > > Perhaps one meeting should be dedicated to creating a > Business Model Canvass for PLUG. ... > http://www.businessmodelgeneration.com/canvas > PLUG does have capabilities and resources to serve people. > What do those people want?
