The longer you make it the worse it will perform... your "cable guy" is totally wrong. I wish I knew his name so I could avoid his cables at all costs. But just because it appears to work doesn't mean it is working correctly. It's the difference between a listening to the radio and having it pick up a lot of noise but you can still understand what the announcer is saying and having enough noise that you can't make out anything.
