Well i soft rooted my Wii recently to add DVD and a few other niceties
to my Wii that they appear to never intend on supporting.

Was very painless and quite nifty, and most of the apps are in a Linux
environment running on the Wii.

If anyone is interested in what i did let me know and ill cobble
together my links and see if i can put them in a logical order. or
just zip up my SD card and send it to you.
