Hey Nathan, This was about a month ago now. SSD products of all kinds are rapidly dropping in price while increasing in size. I went through Tiger and then NewEgg would be a good backup. You may want to check Fry's electronics or even Red7. Even if Red is slightly more expensive you're supporting the local guy. The ssd is light, it's green, and it doesn't generate all the heat a regular HDD does. As far as speed its all relative. But it's pretty much instantaneous this all depending on how many services you have to start at boot. You definitely can't hear a thing. My eee has a 16GB Patriot ePCI ssd and its blazing fast too. I put puppylinux on there so it maximizes space, it boots fast. I guess overall with both being SATA2 it's like a Vette vs a Camry. I do have to say if you get a 2.5" and it is going in a tower make sure you get a conversion kit to help it fit properly in the drive bay area.
