After mysteriously refusing to update, the synaptic updater just started 
working last night.  And darned if (with some hiccups) it didn't boot from the 
latest kernel.  I am hoping to see many of my Ubuntu 8.10 woes cured, and I am 
chancing my luck with KDE again.
