Last time I had a weird grub issue like this I fixed it via:

* Boot redhat cd in rescue mode "linux rescue"
* As soon as you can get to a shell, "chroot /mnt/sysimage"  (assuming 
rescue mode mounted your root partition there for you)
* grub-install
* cross fingers and reboot
