At the risk of being shot at dawn by the list, I have to admit I use Movie Studio by Sony (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudio) on a Windows machine to edit video clips and make movies. The interface is very easy to use, you can export your video to a variety of formats to CD or DVD, and you can input directly from your video camera. I have never had good luck getting the Linux tools to work.
