Well, I finally, after 3 years, upgraded my laptop to ubuntu 8.04 I was very dissapointed in the printing. I have an HP Photosmart 7760, and it printed beautifully under ubuntu 5-something (which is what I had) I couldn't do a lpr -o landscape or portrait, and when I printed pdf files they were butt-ugly. I had been fighting it for over a week, and I finally fixed it. It prints beautifully now. I say all this above, to share with y'all what I have found out. 1) foomatic - gutenprint was not installed by default, don't know why. 2) i installed hplip (although I probably didn't have to, but since it works perfectly, I am not un-installing it now) 3) i changed the printer to use the above, instead of the hpijs 4) there is no landscape and portrait options, but there IS orientation-requested options: landscape <== orientation-requested=4 portrait <== orientation-requested=3 Now, everything works perfectly, no matter what I print. I printed from Lyx, Firefox, a PDF file, and both landscape/portrait text file from a terminal. Now, I hope I remember when I upgrade to ubuntu 11+ 3 years from now!!!! Jerry -- Happy Trails!
