I would agree with you Joshua, but he said he was avoiding java, so I figured i would offer the other two options as well.. Python and Ruby mysql support are pretty good, from my experience; and I definitely agree with number 2.. The real advantage of java is that it probably has a larger install base than python on windows setups.. Less work getting it up and running on client machines.
