I run a variety of Debian/KDE based stuff and although I'm sure the madwifi setup is similar, I'm not familiar with the Fedora/Gnome stuff. One thing I will say is that if I was able to bumble my way through it, pretty much anyone ought to be able to! Don't be afraid to configure this through the command line - you'll learn a lot.
