Qwest VDSL (Qwest does not allow other ISPs) is available on their fiber networks. ADSL termination can only occur on Copper. There can be no fiber between the DSLAM (The device that terminates the ADSL connection) and the customer. The DSLAM is punched down in parallel in the Central Office (CO) with the phone switches terminating the telephone lines. Being a Megahost, I was upset when I moved to Anthem 6 years ago and could not provide Internet to myself. The only thing available was VDSL and at that time and it was difficult to find the correct group to order it from (They had 2 variations 256k and 1m). That being said, VDSL was a great product with great latency and stability. Gilbert T. VDSL and DSL are completely different. They are even handled by different departments within Qwest. VDSL is Qwest's fiber-to-the-neighborhood service that provides television (not the DirectTV stuff they resell) and an Internet connection. If you can get VDSL you are not eligible for DSL service because DSL isn't compatible with fiber (or so I've been told). -- Jon M.
