If your kernel/distro is newer than a few years old, it should work just fine. A word of caution about software (aka XON-XOFF) flow control: It seems that the flow control signals when using this take too long through the driver layers to throttle the data properly. If you are doing serial at a higher speed, like 115K, you will drop data when using software flow control. This issue hold true when using the serial-to-USB adapter under both Linux or Windows, in my experience.
