It sounds like a bastardization of Yellow Dog Linux which is a Red Hat
based distribution specifically for PowerPC architecture machines
(Primarily Macs)

the yum (Yellow Dog Updater, Modified ) program so many of us know and
love takes the Y from yellow dog, though yum actually comes to us by
way of penguin people at Duke.
