gNewSense simply doesn't include the drivers in that case.  If you want to add them that's your call.
I'd recommend that you find a card that has kernel-tree drivers instead, but that may not be an option for you.
That said, there is work going on to fix the "excuse" being used to sneak the wireless blobs in.  Within a year or two it won't be a valid excuse any more, and we'll know who really supports software freedom, and who's just playing the game.
