-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 What: PLUG Developer Meeting When: Thursday, March 1st, 2007 at 7:00 PM Where: Adtron Corporation 4415 E. Cotton Center Blvd., Suite 100 Phoenix, AZ 85040 (Directions are available in the web site FAQ: http://plug.phoenix.az.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=31) Topic: Writing Daemons Daemons are typically system processes, but are also useful for many other tasks. Daemons can also be normal, unprivileged user programs that can perform tasks for you when you're not logged in. We'll cover the basics of writing a daemon in C, and explore how daemons differ from normal processes. We'll make a basic network daemon, show some of the common pitfalls and how to overcome them. Bio Darrin Chandler has been writing code professionally for more than 20 years, is a contributing editor for the OpenBSD Journal, heads the Phoenix BSD User Group, and has been using Linux since 1996 or so. Despite this, neither Linus Torvalds nor Alan Cox know who Darrin is. ========== Network Note: The wireless Internet at Adtron is known to mostly work but is flaky. We have a donated 8 port switch for wired connections but it can fill up if many people want to connect. If you have an access point or a switch to share for the duration of the meeting, it is much appreciated.
