Generally when you close the lid of a laptop it suspends all activities and writes the contents of memory to disk so it can pick up where you left off when you open the cover again. So, no, if you close the lid the laptop will stop operating. Also, the laptop vents exhaust heat through the keyboard so if it ran while the lid was closed it could overheat. ------- Original Message ------- From: Andrew Harris To: Plug MailingList Sent: 02/23/07, 06:48:06 AM Subject: How long should KDE take to install? I'm running a fresh install of Xubuntu, and I wanted KDE as well as Xfce. So I devoted a workspace to synaptic and told it to install kubuntu-desktop. Now here's the fun part: I did that 24 hours ago. It still says "Preparing Packages." WEIRD!!!! Also: will Synaptic continue running if I close the laptop lid? --------------------------------------------------- PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.plug.phoenix.az.us To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change you mail settings: http://lists.PLUG.phoenix.az.us/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
