I guess I had better stop using it. :P I see the smiley but just so no one thinks I'm insulting Debian (as a long time debian user) I'll elaborate. Yes Debian can do anything any other distro does and can be used by regular people. My cousins (who got rid of the windows machine bc it was full of viruses) have been using a debian box for years with very few problems. but I set it up--they never could have. With K/Ubuntu--on the other hand--I'd feel comfortable with just telling them what to do over the phone for an install. (In fact I may be doing that soon). You'll never hear the debian project say 'Let's make a GUI installer so end users can pointy clicky install!" In fact they consistently reject such notions. The Debian installer is very NON mouse driven, developer/admin friendly--NOT end user friendly. The default Debian install will NEVER setup flash and nvidia proprietary drivers. Some other distros do. Ubuntu has such things available by just installing those packages--and then they work. Normally I have to recompile kernels to get nvidia stuff to work on Debian. Another example, the sarge version of Debian does not and never will automatically setup a wireless card that uses ndiswrapper. Some distros manage to do this (like MEPIS). I doubt etch does it automatically either but I haven't tried. Again, my point is not an insult against debian but Every distro has a target audience and end users are NOT the target audience of Debian. - -- JT Morée PC Xperience, Inc. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFiMnH1JwGi/ukQqERAgOmAKCfhiXBQ9q5bZVNS5enT++iVdnaXgCghjAu tlwWM56na5/rAs2rAVlge38= =1FJT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
