-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 > So once again, I would like to be capable of using a gui desktop and gui > tools while logged in a root when I as sole proprietor of my network and that's fine but you may want to switch distros then. ubuntu is using the sudo model and it just takes work to change the way things are done. sure you can do it but it's a little bit of a pain. You almost need to go through the entire system and un sudo all the apps. Generally this is not as much of an issue if you use xhost + (since +root@ doesn't work ) and just run the app you need as root. Tab completion can help. gnome\t\t\t will show you things like gnome-control and k\t\t\t will show you kcontrol etc. I came from Debian using root all the time. It took a little getting used to sudo but I don't run gui apps as root very often and when I do I always know the app I want. For system configs ubuntu has setup sudo on everything so root may not even work properly in some cases. - -- JT Morée PC Xperience, Inc. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFbRXx1JwGi/ukQqERAqFCAKCi3Dnlyhu8XOVd1dr1wDIM9aG2OACgrAmu mu9sL/JjhCSKr7SvmPkp/iE= =6hnA -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
