Just to toss in more conflicting opinions . . . I have Qwest VDSL. Have had no issues since the beginning of 2002. I love it. I even talked Qwest into giving it to me for $19.95. I have a client that has both Cox and Qwest DSL in their office (wonderful Linux firewall with two Internet connections and auto failover). Cox has been a nightmare. Qwest is rock-solid. We have to power-cycle the Cox modem and reboot the firewall about every 3 weeks. We've replaced the modem and even changed the IP address - no change. Strange thing is, it always fails in the early hours of the morning, like during a maintenance window with minimal traffic. And simply power-cycling the Cox modem is not enough. I've tried to ifdown eth0 followed by ifup eth0, I've tried service network restart, but that does not work. Only rebooting the firewall gets the Cox modem to work right. Cox customer support is irritating as hell as well. They always blame my computer for the problem. It took almost 3 weeks to get them to send out a tech. Keep in mind, this is a Cox Business account, and I expect better customer service than that. The tech was very knowledgable. He told me quite a bit about their internal setup that helped us with our issues. So we went from losing Cox weekly to losing it once every three weeks.
