A few months ago I bought a WRT54GL to replace our 200MHz Linux firewall box here at home. I installed OpenWRT[1] on it without any trouble and have found it to be quite flexible and easy to use. I only enable the wireless once in a while when I feel like using my Zaurus SL-5600, my only wireless computer. It costs a bit more than the other models but that "L" on the end did two things for me: 1. Support embedded Linux by paying for something specifically because it has Linux in it and is intended to use Linux. ("Hey, Linksys/Cisco! I'm paying a premium for a Linux product!") 2. Minimized any worry that the router may be incompatible with the Linux distros and router software out there. If you don't want to load new firmware, it already has quite capable Linux based software in it. I used what it came with for some time before trying out OpenWRT, mostly because I wanted to try it rather than any need for a feature. I bought mine at Fry's Electronics for $69.00 (I think). They regularly stock them though the once in a while run out of them.
