Craig, Lisp has been around for (at least) forty years ... it's the "assembly language" of the functional programming arena. If you really want to "look into the face of God" check out a modern functional programming language: Haskell. See http://www.haskell.org There are some excellent tutorials available at this site. Free (as in beer) Haskell compilers for Linux are available as well.
