Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 09:07:01 -0700 In the ongoing (endless) battle against spam, I am trying to create filters to block as much of this garbage as possible, but I can't figure out how to get the Kmail "Configure POP filters" to "Delete mail from server" without downloading it from my email service provider to my system. What am I doing wrong? I choose "Match any of the following" select "Subject" and "contains" and enter a word or phrase such as "microcap" or "Small Stocks" and for the filter action, I choose "Delete mail from server", then click "Apply" and "OK" ... but this does not stop the identified subjects from being downloaded to my system. Why? How can I get this to work? -------------- Joe, I don't know if you got a reply that helped since it looks like the topic has been hijacked to talk about Gmail. As someone pointed out POP downloads the mail and then filters on the client side. You should check with your mail provider and ask what anti-spam measures they have in place and if they are working effiently in your case. Spam needs to be filtered at the serverside and it should be your providers responsiblity to do so as much as possible. If you have webmail you may be able to setup some (additional) serverside filtering yourself or make mail for inclusion in your providers blacklist. Unlike POP, IMAP leaves all mail on the server and you access it from T'Bird or another IMAP aware mail client there. The advantage is you can access the mail from any computer and won't lose mail if you have a hardware failure. T'Bird has good spam filters and can be configured to recognize legitimate senders if they are in your addressbook. You can also use subject or sender sorting to your advantage, just click on the column header to sort. Virtual search folders are a great way to collect a running project's mail in one place. These techniques help to push leftover spam in your inbox out of the way so you can get to the reat stuff.
