A year or so ago I bought a refurbished Sharp Zaurus SL-5600 for less than $150. Checking now they are not a plentiful on eBay as before but it comes and goes. I have not regretted my choice. It is like carrying a Linux PC in your hand in feel and behavior. It has limitations, of course, but there are several distros (aka ROMs) to choose from. A new version of the most popular base was released just weeks ago. Read the wiki, etc. at http://www.openzaurus.org/wordpress/ My two cents to your question.
